Gene Simmons Becomes Ill Onstage at KISS Concert in Brazil and Has to Perform While Seated

Gene Simmons, the vocalist and bass player of the rock band KISS, had to take a break during a recent concert in Manaus, Brazil on April 12, due to feeling unwell. Despite this, he tried his best to perform for his fans. Singer and guitarist Paul Stanley paused the show and informed the audience that they needed to take care of Gene because he was sick. He asked the crowd to shout out “Gene” three times to show their support. After a five-minute break, Simmons returned to the stage and performed the band’s song “Say Yeah” from a chair.

The band is currently on their End of the Road Tour and recently announced a return to the United States from October through December, with two dates at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Dec. 1 and 2. The band members chose New York City for their final shows ever, in honor of their roots as they formed the group in the city in the 1970s. They expressed that it will be a privilege and an honor to finish touring at Madison Square Garden, which is only 10 blocks and 50 years from where they first started.
The End of the Road Tour began in 2019 but had to be paused due to the pandemic. Although the final tour may be the end of their touring, the band members have expressed their openness to one-off concerts, festivals, or a Las Vegas residency. In a July 2022 interview with Chaoszine, Simmons shared that the band was enjoying touring so much that they wanted to add “another 100 cities.” He also said that they don’t know when they will retire because they have never retired before. To them, it’s like painting a painting or writing a book, and they don’t know when it will be finished.
